there was a blue jewel indicator near the pressure gauge. my father told me that as soon as that light came on i should do two things - pull the lever back to bring the gauge back out of the red and holler to let him know. i would just sit there for hours staring at that damn thing. i always worried that i would go into a trance from the droning sound of the motor and not notice it - but i always did. at night when i'd go to sleep i would just see this little blue indicator in my head, as if i where still looking at it. many times as i dozed off i thought i saw it coming on and a few of those times i was unable to react. i couldn't pull the lever back and i couldn't yell out to my father. i would just watch the gauge rise into the red and i would wake frightened that the machine was going to explode and hurt my dad.
